Sweden participates in EU legislative work together with the other Member States of the Union. EU regulations comprise directives and regulations.
Swedish laws and ordinances serve as the basis for PTS's work. Key acts include the Postal Services Act and the Electronic Communications Act.
PTS may issue regulations and general advice within the areas of postal services and electronic communications. Such regulations are binding, whereas the general advice communicates the views of PTS in various matters.
PTS makes many decisions that become binding for operators in the market. Many decisions are appealed against. The decisions of PTS and court rulings establish general practice in the area; these help clarify legislation, ordinances, regulations, etc.
