As a general rule, you need a licence from PTS to use radio transmitters. However, certain radio uses are exempt from the requirement for a permit and do not require authorization.

Licence application

You can apply for a licence to use radio transmitters by using our e-service or web form. To use the e-service, it is typically required that you log in with BankID or authenticate your identity in another way. Afterward, you can fill out the application form and submit it electronically. Alternatively, you can use the web form provided by us to apply for the licence.

Exemption from licence requirement

We have decided to exempt certain radio transmitters from the licence requirement.

For example, you do not need a licence for:

  • Wireless baby monitors
  • Hunting radios
  • Wireless networks (WiFi)
  • Alarms in certain frequency spaces.

When using radio transmitters that do not require a licence, you may share space with other radio uses in the same geographic location and at the same time. This increases the risk of interference.

Search for exemptions from the licence requirement in the e-service

In the e-service, you can search by frequency range or by different types of radio uses that do not require a licence from PTS. The e-service is in Swedish only.

We work for more exemptions from the licence requirement

Exemptions from the licence requirement for certain radio transmitters facilitate for users and contribute to competition, innovation, and growth. Therefore, we strive to exempt more radio uses from the licence requirement and remove unnecessary restrictions.
