Those who wish to use numbers from a national numbering plan need to have a permit from the PTS. Numbers are a limited resource. To ensure that all who need number resources receive them, it is important that operators and providers use the resources we allocate efficiently.
We allocate numbers to the operator. If you are a subscriber, you will receive your subscriber number from your operator. We apply some principles when allocating numbers:
- We primarily allocate numbers with a number length of an initial zero plus 9 digits (national prefix (0) + subscriber number).
- We allocate numbers in blocks of 100, 1,000, 10,000, or 100,000 numbers, depending on the type of number series involved.
- Regarding numbers for directory assistance (118 XYZ) and national corporate numbers (90 XYZ), we also allocate individual numbers.
Refer to our guidelines for applying for permission to use number resources from the telephone numbering plan, including operator prefixes. (The document is in Swedish only).
Apply for numbering resources
Apply through our e-service:
Apply for numbering resources (e-service)
The application e-service requires e-identification. If you are not able to get a Swedish e-identification you can still use the e-service by having a contact person with a Swedish e-identification or use some foreign e-identifications. The contact person should register at PTS by using the forms for notification of operators.
You can also use our application forms.
Application forms
Application form for a licence for the use of E.164 numbering resources
Application form for a licence for the use of operator prefix

Search in the numbering plans
In our e-service, you can search within the various numbering plans. You can filter, for example, assigned or available number resources and see the current status. There is also the possibility to export the results from your searches to, for example, Excel.
This indicates the status when you search in the numbering plans
Free: The number resource is available for application.
Occupied: We cannot allocate the number resource because it is either blocked, planned, or designated for a specific application as decided in the telephone numbering plan or in the technical plan.
Dormant: The number resource has been returned and should remain unused for a period before we can allocate it again. The dormant period is normally six months (one year for technical codes).
Assigned: An entity has been granted permission by us to use the number resource.
Reserved: Allocated number resource that we can open and thereby make available for entities to apply for.
